Whoops!

On Friday September 4, 1998, we had an interesting incident with a large flue vent coming through our ceiling.

It woke my roommate, Josh, who was napping on the couch. What a way to wake up! Apparently, a roofing inspector had accidentely dislodged the fireplace flue vent, sending it crashing through the ceiling.

In coming through the ceiling and crashed down on our lamp and coffee table, and left plaster shards everwhere.

When we signed the lease for this place, Tantra Lake(the owners) informed us that asbestos was present in the walls and ceiling. Obviously, this big hole gave us a little bit of cause for concern! Fortunately, they brought in a special company to repair the damage and test for air quality. Almost everything was fixed, although some damage remained, as is shown here.

The flue vent coming through the ceiling caused some extensive damage to the floorboards, as seen here.

The company that came in sealed the room off, duct taping plastic sheets to the wall. The red circles indicate places where some residual stains are on the walls.

Unfortunately there are a couple of marks directly next where the hole was sealed.

The company also used the door as a contact surface to seal with. When the duct tape was removed it stripped some of the door's wood, resulting in the vertical stripe you see here.

Tantra Lake has been very helpful in regards to this situation. We like them lots!
